FAQ about Lone Wolf Sportfishing

These are the top questions we get about our fishing charters. If you have other questions or simply want more details, don’t hesitate to contact us.

What kind of boat(s) do you use?

For the open waters of Lake Ontario we use a fully decked-out Luhrs 32 Open and for trips on the Niagara River and other local tributaries we use 19’ ft Lund Pro Vs. We pride ourselves on having the best boats in the area. Visit our Photo Gallery to see for yourself.

Does your boat for Lake Ontario have a bathroom?

Yes, we have invested in the top boats to ensure our guests are comfortable.

Are your boats maintained?

Most definitely. We take pride in our boats and invest heavily in regular maintenance to ensure they are top-of-the-line and outfitted with everything needed. We do not hold back in this area.

Where do you fish?

We are ideally located in the Niagara Region and troll the open waters out of the port of Wilson (which is the closest port to the world renowned Niagara River Bar). We are located in the southwest corner of the lake with predominant SW wind direction that grants us the calmest waters. During fall, winter and spring we are also located between two of the most famous tributaries in Lake Ontario: the Niagara River and 18mile creek which flows from Burt Dam to the port of Olcott. In addition, the crew of Lone Wolf cut their teeth tangling with steelhead, browns, and kings in all the local honey hole creeks that are off the beaten path. No matter the time of year we know where to catch the fish.

Do you have a first mate for your Lake Ontario charters?

Yes, our team consists of Captains Dan and Tyler (also our first mate). Visit the About page for more information.

How much does it cost and is a deposit required?

Rates vary from $275-$700 depending on the charter and number of people. A 50% deposit is required at booking. Learn more at our Charter Rates page or contact us if that’s easier (716.863.0018).

What happens if there is bad weather?

If bad weather presents risk for your charter, it will either be rescheduled or we’ll give you a full refund.

Are your charters set for certain times?

Other than the general time of year we keep schedules flexible so that things can be moved around to meet the needs of every customer.

What is the best time of year to fish?

For lake fishing the best time is April-September. For river/stream fishing the best time is September-April. Visit Charters and Rates for more details.

What should I bring on the trip?

We suggest a camera, soft soled shoes, sun screen, motion sickness pills (if needed), appropriate clothing/ rain suits, food and drinks, NYS Fishing License (Get your License), a cooler to take home your catch and waders (if stream fishing).
